Technical Issues

I just wanted to pass along to everyone that I’m aware of an issue accessing pages other than the main site.

I am looking into it and hope to have it solved shortly.

My apologies to all.

Encounter Idea 22 - The Drunk

Not every role-playing encounter needs to be serious and using a drunk can give you that change of pace. Be sure to make it a memorable experience though, slur your words when you speak, get up and stagger around the table and make large arm motions when you talk. This a great opportunity to ‘ham it up’ in front of your group and may just be what’s needed to break the string of serious sessions.

So, what can you do with a drunk?

- Have him stagger into the group spilling the contents of that big bag of gold coins they’re bringing back from the local dungeon.
- Have her stumble over to the party while at their local “watering hole” and ask for money.

Or you can use them to affect the group a bit more directly:

- The drunk could be a Mercenary between jobs and blowing off a bit of steam and pay decides to pick a fight with one of the party members.
- You can borrow a scene right out of the movies, “Corbin, sure I know a Corbin. He’s sitting right over there.”

Got an idea for the drunk? I’d love to hear about it.

May your dice roll well.

How much time do you spend preparing?

I’m sure you seen and read a number of articles on how much time a GM should spend getting ready for a gaming session but the question needs to be asked of players too.

Are you ready to go when you show up?

I’m not just talking about bringing your favorite snack with you along with your dice (you did remember them right?) and character sheet either - have you prepared for the session?

Did you take the time to update your character sheet and notes from the last session?

Maybe the characters attained a new level, did you do all your “leveling up” work yet?

Did you create that new “cheat card” you need so that you’re not always looking up all your modifiers in the middle of a combat?

Did you update your spell list? Your ammo count? Your hit points, health or karma?

Did you make a “shopping list” of the things your character needs?

The above is just a short list of things that as a player you should think about during the downtime between sessions. Anything you can do to make the work of the GM easier WILL be appreciated and help the actual gaming sessions get started on time and run that much smoother.

So, what things do you do to make sure you’re prepared ahead of time?

May your dice roll well.
