“A knife is a tool, not a toy.”

That quote is the first rule that my sons had to learn tonight as their Cub Scout Den started to work on their Whittling Chip which will allow them to carry a knife to approved events. The entire den did a good job of paying attention during the safety lesson and all got a chance to take a crack at sharpening a knife.

A couple of weeks from now we’ll be finishing the lessons with some basic knife skills, we’ll be whittling a bar of soap into a bear, or at least that’s what we’re hoping for.
