I’ve been a user of Google Voice for some time and quite frankly was a bit upset when the plug was pulled on the app in the app store. I know you could still call the number and still use the service but it would have been nice to have it right on the phone and handy (understanding that there is a app out there if you jailbreak your iPhone).
Today, Google announced that there is now a Web-app for Google Voice. It uses HTML5 to create a really slick interface to the service which you can then bookmark or add to your homescreen (iPhone) or launcher (Palm OS). I’ve already downloaded it and run a few tests and so far it works great and as advertised.
You can get the app by heading over to http://m.google.com/voice and read the full write up on the Google Voice blog. I’ve included their brief video overview below for your enjoyment.
I’ve mentioned in the past that one of my favorite applications is Evernote – the be all, end all of notebook tools. When at my desk I typically work in the web client but there is also a client for both Windows and Mac, versions for your smartphone (I use the iPhone app frequently) the trouble is sometimes you just want to add a quick note without loading up any of the tools I just mentioned.
Enter MMS.
As I mentioned, my mobile life runs on an iPhone right now so if I need to create a new note in my Evernote account instead of launching the application I can fire up the Messaging app instead and set it to send to my Evernote Upload contact.
If you’re not sure what email address to use log into your Evernote account, head over to your settings information and there should be an email address in the format abcd@m.evernote.com (abcd will be whatever text that Evernote populates it with).
After selecting the contact I entered in a test message for the purposes of this post and the screen capture is what my iPhone screen looked like after I hit the send button.
A minute or two later I logged into my Evernote account and the following could be seen (web client shown).
So there you have it, a way to put information into your Evernote account using multi-media messaging – just be careful and check your mobile plan to see if any charges apply.
